ApniDukaan | 3-Month Experiment That Changed How I Think About Business

How It Started

I built this e-commerce business as part of an Entrepreneurship Challenge by Master’s Union, where the task was to transform an idea into a real, functioning venture within just three months. What began as a short-term competition soon grew into a startup experiment — one that pushed me to dive deep into market research, product strategy, and digital branding.

Choosing What to Sell

Me and my team focused on tech and lifestyle accessories — products people use daily but often overlook, like smartwatches, earphones, phone stands, and mini speakers. I wanted to understand what makes people buy: was it utility, price, or presentation? Every product we sold became a data point in that experiment.

Running the Store

From creating the product catalog to setting up the website and handling customer queries, every task became a learning ground. I designed ad campaigns on Meta Ads, managed fulfillment through suppliers, and learned to track metrics like CTR, CAC, and conversion rates. Seeing orders come in — from real people, across cities — made every late-night debugging session worth it.

Lessons That Stuck

Apni Dukaan wasn’t just about e-commerce; it was about experimentation. I learned how to position products for the right audience, how price sensitivity shapes trust, and how storytelling in ads impacts buying behaviour. More than the ₹1.5 lakh in sales, what I took away was a new understanding of how data, psychology, and design work together to make a product succeed.

Combining Real World & Textbooks

As an IBDP2 student exploring Computer Science, Business Management, and Global Politics, I’ve always been drawn to where ideas meet impact. My projects often sit at the intersection of theory and real-world relevance — where what I learn in class starts to take shape as something tangible.

Experiments

Not every idea I started with worked out — and that’s the point. Many of these projects went through cycles of trial, failure, and rebuilding. Each detour taught me to think critically, adapt fast, and see mistakes as part of the process rather than the end of it.

Playground

This space is where I experiment, build, and connect ideas across disciplines. Every project here is a small step toward understanding how technology, business, and creativity work together — even when I’m still figuring out how all the pieces fit.

Learning While Failing

Some of my biggest lessons didn’t come from success but from setbacks. I’ve learned that creating something meaningful often means debugging through uncertainty, iterating through feedback, and keeping the curiosity alive even when things fall apart.

Understanding Business Analysis Processes

I observed how experienced analysts gather requirements directly from stakeholders, translating big concepts into specific, actionable needs. Seeing how questions and interviews become the foundation for development helped me appreciate the human side of building good software.

From Requirements to Developer Stories

One major learning was watching how high-level business needs get broken into user stories or technical tasks for the development team. I participated in meetings where requirements were clarified, reworded, and prioritized—an essential step I’d never seen outside my textbooks.

Collaboration with Senior Team Members

As the most junior team member, I shadowed senior analysts and designers; their willingness to answer my questions made complex workflow diagrams and process maps much more approachable. This collaborative environment showed me how teams rely on trust, clear communication, and humility to solve tough problems.

Use of Tools and Methodologies

I got hands-on exposure to key industry tools (like requirement management platforms, collaboration apps, and basic wireframing). Learning even the basics made me realize how much technology shapes and speeds up modern business analysis.

Project Documentation and Clarity

I understood how to document requirements, decisions, and changes—sometimes revising several times as ideas evolved. This taught me the real importance of clear, up-to-date documentation to keep complex projects moving smoothly.

Impact & Transferable Skills

This internship made me more comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and connecting classroom concepts to real-world needs. I’ve gained insight into teamwork, communication, and the need for clarity—skills that matter whether I continue in technology or explore other business roles.

Reflect: Stories that Stay

The impact went far beyond the shelves. Children discovered new worlds through books, families shared reading moments, and volunteers grew into leaders. This project taught me the power of small actions to spark lasting change—and how giving stories can create new ones in return.

Priced to Predict: Machine Learning for Smarter Retail Decisions

A research-based initiative exploring how machine learning can optimize retail pricing by analyzing sales, competition, and product data to create smarter, data-driven business decisions.

My Learning Journey

As a DP2 student passionate about technology, I wanted to see how AI truly impacts real-world decisions. This project gave me that chance — bridging classroom learning with practical experience, where every dataset tells a new story about consumer behavior and strategy.

Focused On Ground Principles

I am exposed to using Python while mastering evaluation metrics. Beyond the technical side, this project has strengthened my analytical thinking and ability to translate complex findings into clear insights.

What Am I Exploring

I’m experimenting with algorithms like Decision Trees, Linear Regression, and K-Means to understand how different patterns in data can predict prices and trends. Each model helps me uncover a new layer of logic behind how markets respond and evolve.

Exposure & Growth

Working with mentors and real datasets has shown me how data science drives meaningful business impact. This project hasn’t just built my technical skills — it’s inspired a deeper curiosity about how technology can shape smarter, more sustainable decisions in the world of business.

My Research Process

My approach combines structure and creativity — from cleaning messy data and handling outliers to training models and testing results. It’s taught me that good research isn’t just about finding answers, but learning how to ask the right questions from data.

The Road Ahead

This project is just the beginning. I plan to refine my models further and explore how AI can personalize pricing for different markets and audiences. My goal is to turn data into real-world decisions that not only boost profits but also create fairer, smarter consumer experiences.
